Mental Health

Mental Health
  • Mental health. It's the way your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors affect your life.

  • Good mental health leads to positive self-image and in turn, satisfying relationships with friends and others.

  • Having good mental health helps make good decisions and deal with life's challenges at home, work, or school.

  • Feeling capable and competent; being able to handle normal levels of stress, maintain satisfying relationships, and lead an independent life; and being able to "bounce back," or recover from difficult situations, are all signs of mental health.

Mental Health loosely means a state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life.

Breaking the traditional concept

Most people feel mental health only covers ailments like Schizophrenia, and phobias. But in modern day life, mental health is more often at stake than physical health. This is mainly because while physical conditions like fevers and coughs are easy to diagnose, someone with chronic stress might not notice it, nor the ones around him/her. A holistic model of mental health generally includes concepts based upon anthropological, educational, psychological, religious and sociological perspectives as well as theoretical perspectives from personality, social, clinical, health and developmental psychology.

Make new friends

You need people, lots of them.
If the friends-of-friends-of-friends chain reaction that had kept your life stocked with new relationships has fizzled out - for example, if you have moved to a new place where you don't know anyone - try taking a more active role. But instead of trying to chat up folks at the local watering hole, sign up for a class that involves a lot of social interaction.
