Three basic forces
-
Ayurveda believes in three types of "forces" arising from the influence of the fundamental elements.
-
These three forces, or doshas, govern your qualities, and the kind of illnesses that'll plague you.
-
The doshas are divided into Vata(Energy, movement, stamina), Pitta(Digestion, body heat), and Kapha(Body Structure, and physical well being).
-
Based on your characteristics, an ayurvedic practitioner can propose appropriate remedies, diets, etc.
-
Ayurveda believes that matter is manifested in five elements.
In Ayurveda, Ether, Air, Fire, Water, Earth correspond to the five senses; Hearing, Touch, Vision, Taste and Smell respectively.
The Five Elements
Ayurvedic system is based on the interaction of the body, mind and spirit. In Ayurveda the origin of all aspects of existence is consciousness. Matter and Energy are one. Matter is manifested in five elements. Ether (Space), Air (Vayu), Fire (Agni), Water (Jal) and Earth (Prithvi).
Air
Air is present in the movement of muscles beating of the heart, expansion and contraction of the lungs and working of the digestive tract.![]()
